Another type of fasting helps to lose weight .. What is it?

One sets a lot of goals for the new year, some of which can relate to health and losing extra pounds. What is known as therapeutic fasting may be your way to lose three kilograms in just five days. So what is it?

This type of fasting is known as "detox" or intermittent fasting.

Recently, many terms such as “detox”, which means detoxing the body, or “rejuvenation” have appeared to talk about what is known as therapeutic fasting. However, the medical director at the Buchinger Wilhelmy Medical Center, Francois de Toledo, believes that these names are used to refer to what is achieved after fasting, which is the feeling as if one is “lighter, more energetic and liberated,” according to the German version of the “MSN” website.

Intermittent fasting, also known as intermittent fasting, is to stop eating for several hours each day. It can be done for just one or two days each week, or fasting five days in a row every few months, or even for ten or more days in a row each year.

The best period for fasting is determined according to the person’s health status, age stage, weight, diseases, and the nutrition he usually receives. On the day of fasting, the fasting person usually eats the equivalent of 200 to 250 calories from organic juices, vegetables and honey. During this fasting period, the body burns fat instead of relying on glucose as an alternative source of energy.

The Harvard Health website notes the need to pay attention to the timing of fasting as the "key" to making fasting a realistic, effective and permanent way to lose excess weight and prevent type 2 diabetes.

In this regard, Professor Monique Tello, Harvard Medical School, explains that what usually happens in the period between eating one meal and another is a decrease in insulin levels in the body. The idea of using fasting as a way to lose weight is to allow the body to reduce insulin long enough to burn fat, so the cells of the body start building fat again and start eating again after the end of the fast. That is why it is recommended to follow fasting under the supervision of a nutritionist.

You can always fast on your own, but according to the medical director of the Buchinger Wilhelm Center, François de Toledo, it is easier to fast with the participation of others and under medical supervision. Toledo adds that the desire to lose extra weight can be a powerful motivator for fasting. However, fasting not only helps with that, but also contributes to lowering cholesterol and fat levels in the blood and improving sugar and blood pressure. It also improves the health of the heart and blood vessels.

But de Toledo warns that weight gain may be an alarm bell for an unhealthy diet that requires some intervention to break the wrong daily routine. Here, the importance of fasting appears to help break the fear of changing the old regime and adopting a new healthy eating style.

What is meant by fasting here is not only reducing food quantities to lose weight, but also changing the behaviors followed, as returning to old eating habits due to life stresses or loss of motivation, for example, would bring back all the lost weight again.

Finally, Harvard Medical School professor Monique Tello advises avoiding eating sugar and snacks between main meals, and not eating any food in the evening and immediately before bed, and stresses the need to exercise and strengthen muscles.
